Ribbon performance directly affects print quality, and print quality directly affects barcode readability. When ribbon formulation does not match the label material being used, the result is smearing, incomplete ink transfer, and barcodes that fail to scan thereby causing delays, reprints, and errors in every process that depends on accurate label scanning.
Thermal transfer ribbons are available in three formulations matched to different label materials and durability requirements. Wax ribbons suit standard paper labels for indoor use. Wax-resin ribbons provide improved resistance to smearing and moisture for more demanding applications. Full resin ribbons deliver maximum durability on synthetic labels for chemical, outdoor, or high-temperature environments.
